Not as easy as I thought..

About this time, we have all received answers from our colleges. Many acceptances and many rejections. I have completed my intent to register with UCR :). I felt that after the next step in choosing a college, things would be a little less stressful, however I feel that college isn't going to be as easy as I thought. My immature thoughts of parties, parties, parties, quickly changed after I realized that we aren't going to school because we have to, but because we choose to. That we are now paying for our education, and that we must sacrifice the fun or easy life we expected in order to be at our best potential and take our education seriously. I definitely needed to take a step back and reevaluate my reasoning for college and to see if my intentions were right.

  1. This is a very visionary insight, that truthfully, shouldn't be as visionary as it is. So many people do not realize that the purpose of college is indeed to further our studies in a more focused manner, so as to prove worth in society. Countless people are under the misconception that college is all parties, which do have a time and a place in college, but are far too commonplace of a focus for many students.

  2. It's good that you realize this now and not when you are actually in college. At least you have time to prepare. As you will notice, college is full of people who want to further their education. You will of course meet those people who do not care about their education and still party 24/7, but those are the ones who won't get far. What you do in college will impact your life, so work hard.

  3. I can understnad your though process. I completely sobered up my excitement of getting out of the house and meeting new people when I looked at my financial aid rewards. Even though I recieved more than most, I can still see that even with help, its not going to be easy to cover my costsespecialy if I go to USC or Berkeley, and I will be attending one of them. So many choices, so much money. I can honestly say that my appreciation for my parents and the sacrifices they will make for me to achieve my dreams has grown.

  4. Its very good of you that you realized how important and serious college is going to be. I was just like you, probably even worse becuase high school really spoiled me. College is going to be all about studying and forgetting fun to do homework, but i guess we all need that to be somewhere in life.

  5. As amazing as it would be to be able to party all the time with no worries, I have also realized that college isn't going to be all fun and games, just as high school wasn't all fun and games. I have talked to a lot of friends in college and it seems to me that you can have fun in college, but in the end, it's going to be about prioritizing, not partying.

  7. Wow Anthony...just wow. I would have never expected you to put a post up like this, but I'm glad you had an epiphany about taking your college career seriously (not that you didn't take high school seriously). It is true that you can't always go to the parties, or skate through college by doing all the extracuricular activities (although it's always good to treat yourself to one every once in a while so you won't explode). This blog just goes to show that it's time to mature, grow up, and get your act together, because what you'll learn in college will surely be used later on in life (no doubt about that). So I'll gladly take this blog as a wake up call, and everyone else should do the same so your won't mess up once you're already in college.

  8. Congratulations on getting into UCR, I will be going there too! I definetely understand how you feel, because just recently I began to think about all the changes that wil unravel as I pursue my college education. I think the best thing we can do is understand our responsibilities and accept the sacrifices we will have to make to succeed in college.

  9. Congrats on getting into UCR. I'm glad that you realized you should get your priorities straight before going off to college. Honestly, I was hoping that around this time it would be good to relax and party a bit here and there, but I realize now that all good things should happen in moderation.

  10. I can relate to the thoughts and feelings you've been going through. Thinking about the financial aspect of college will make me more conscious of my decisions in college. The consequences of skipping or sleeping in class are more serious because we're now directly paying for our education. Congrats and good luck at UCR. I'm sure you'll be able to find the balance between studying and having fun in college.

  11. Honestly that used to be one of my thoughts as well...but I realized that's wrong and college isn't a place to mess around in...its made to educate us and prepare us for the rest of our lives...so parties arnt the answer...I agree with what you said fully
