MONEY by Anthony Flores

Okay, so everyone I'm sure has chosen the college they will attend. Money is very limited to many people and isn't something that can be thrown away in this economy. I didn't understand how important Financial Aid and scholarships were. Woah was I suprised. The financial aid I received is a blessing and I'm privileged. However, even a couple thousand isn't easy money to just give away. I begin to see the stress in my parents eyes as I get closer to my college life. Bills, bills, bills. College is going to be so different for me. Food, books, and gas is going to be something we have to take into consideration if you haven't already. It's over guys, the sheltered life we were so spoiled to have and the everyday trials that our family helped us get through is rapidly fading away. It's sad, but its also life.

  1. Oh the joys of becoming an adult. In reality, I think college will be kind of similar in some ways to highschool ;) Tons of freedom, yes, but your housing is paid for, your food is there, and you just have to maintain your studies. No doubt it will be full of fun and hard experiences, but that is one of the main reasons for life.

  2. This is very true. I think it is going to be kind of a shock to lots of people when they have to suddenly move out and begin paying for things themselves. But for the most part, we aren't entirely on our own till we actually leave college.

  3. So true. Even though we may not be totally on our own this is a huge step towards adulthood. At least in my case, with my parents paying for my college I am going to have to earn my own extra spending money. It may sound bad, but I have never felt the pressure to make sure I have a job. Balancing things like work, school, and a social lie while on one's own without parental assistance is going to be difficult, but I also think it will be I great learning experience that is hopefully a lot of fun too.

  4. I think going to college is going to be great to learn to manage all these expenses. Whether or not your parents are paying for tution or not, you still have to pay for your own stuff and earn your own money. Although we aren't completely on our own, its another big step towards being completely independent.

  5. College is definitely going to be a new experience- and an expensive one at that. We are going to have to be truly independent for the first time in our lives. But it is wonderful practice for the real world and part of growing up. I do think it is overpriced- but it will be worth it in the end. -Dorothy Z.

  7. I'm glad that people are beginning to recognize that the sheltered life that they had been so blessed with is finally diminishing. So many of us are going away to school and again, so many of us are not facing this the way we should be. It should be a great experience, but if you aren't prepared, tough times await you.

  8. Cousin!! Just realized you commented on one of my post so im commenting on yours. Me and you grew up in different households and have grown to become independent from money. But like you said we getting closer and closer to those college days and all we can think about is money now. You've been blessed cousin with the financial aid help and hope you don't take it for granted. Spend the time in college wisely, but still have fun kid. Don't ever change or forget your priorities.
